Twenty-four kilometres outside of Marrakech, nestled in the peaceful Haouz plains, Tigmi boutique hotel is a calm mud-walled oasis with masses of berber character.
On first impressions, the earthy walls help the building blend into its rural surroundings, giving a feeling of calm and nature; and inside, the homely, white-washed interior is complemented by brightly coloured hand-woven throws draped on the walls and wooden furniture. The panoramic views of an ancient kasbah in uninterrupted plains in front of the snow-capped Atlas make Tigmi the perfect spot for relaxation and escape. In summer, cool down in the pool and dry off on the deck overlooking the plains, and in winter, enjoy the steaming local tagine created by one of the countries best creators of Moroccan and French cuisine. Stroll through the luscious gardens who’s colours contrast against the earthy walls, and smell the citrus trees blended with the thick smells of roses, hibiscus and dozens of other native North African plants.
The 16 bedrooms and 5 suites rooms are simple yet luxurious, warm havens decorated with beautiful tapestries made by Tigmi’s own in-house weaver from the local berber village. Sit and enjoy a mint tea, a local favourite, by your personal open fireplace, before bathing in the sun by the terrace pool, or perhaps heading out for some fresh air in the nearby walking routes. Tigmi also offers a daily complementary shuttle to Marrakech, perfect if you’re dipping into the city for some souk action or a lively lunch. Back at base we seriously recommend a visit to the spa. After an intense exfoliation treatment and massage in traditional wood-fired hammam spa you won’t be able to do anything more than collapse in this indoor oasis.
