The colonial city of Guanajuato is completely transformed as the streets come alive with theatre, dance, music and art for the best part of a month (it’s like the Edinburgh Festival, except the weather’s nicer and the food is spicier).
We have joined in the celebrations several times and have seen acts from all around the globe perform at this unique event. The atmosphere is electric.

But this October (it runs from the 5th until the 23rd) the Festival Internacional Cervantino is of special importance – if that was possible.
This year’s guest nation is the United Kingdom, so there really is no excuse for you not to take that holiday to Mexico you’ve been promising yourself. You’ve practically been sent a personal invitation by the whole of Mexico (and we’d encourage you to accept).
With around 175 events, you’ll be completely spoilt for choice, and when you’ve soaked up as much high art as you can take, you can kick back and relax with a chilled beer in one of the town’s chic bars (a very tempting proposition, we think you’ll agree).
