Cancun is renowned for its incredible beaches. We’ve spent weeks cooling off in the sparkling waters surrounding the Yucatan peninsula, so we should know.
But the coastline of Mexico is about to get bigger as the powdery white sand in the region is topped up by the country’s government.
Mexico has been giving its beaches a helping hand ever since 2005, when Hurricane Wilma left many of them looking a little dishevelled and in need of some minor cosmetic surgery. And, at the end of last month, Mexico renewed its efforts to make the country’s beaches the best on the planet by spending a further £36 million on them.
The resurfacing of Mexico’s finest sunbathing spots will be finished before Christmas, so if you’re heading out there to enjoy a little seaside relaxation this festive season, you can rest assured that they will be in tip-top shape.
Among the many beaches getting the five-star treatment are Playa Las Perlas, Playa Juventud and Plata Langosta – three of Cancun’s finest. And as they face the beautiful Isla Mujeres, they are sheltered from the sometimes-choppy Caribbean.
So what are you waiting for? It’s time to book that beach trip to Mexico.
