Thailand’s Koh Samui is an interesting getaway. It’s the country’s third largest island and is among Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations.
But despite receiving millions of visitors every year, it still manages to hold onto that isolated rural charm – as long as you head to the right places.
Our recommendation is the Eden Rock Villa. A luxury apartment that overlooks Chaweng Beach and the azure waters of the Gulf of Thailand.
Eden Rock is one of the few unscathed gems of Koh Samui and yet remains tantalisingly close to some of the more vibrant attractions on offer on the island.
And it seems that Eden Rock could soon be seen as a pioneer on the island, as Koh Samui tries to boost sustainable tourism and restore the picturesque beauty that made the island so popular in the first place.
The Green Island Project is a ten-year initiative that will make Koh Samui a better place to live and, as a result, a better place to visit.
Those behind the Green Island Project claim that while humans can have an adverse affect on the environment, they can also have a positive one and "done in a balanced way", travellers can "preserve and even enhance the natural world around us".
We agree, and hope that the things that make trips to Thailand most enjoyable – like the amazing beauty, wildlife and culture – are preserved and promoted.
