At the Priory Country Lodge you’ll really feel like a house guest instead of an anonymous hotel room number. With gorgeous antique furniture, individually designed fabrics by Jim Thompson and a countryside setting: this is the definition of tranquil, cosy luxury. There are only four bedrooms, which means some seriously personalised service. You’ll know the chef (and all the other staff for that matter) pretty well, so finding out what’s for dinner is as simple as hopping down to the gorgeous country kitchen for a chat. We love walking through the front door with its multi-coloured stained glass panels and feeling as though we’re back in colonial times. Go through the library with its handpicked leather bound titles and for the perfect quiet afternoon head to the sun or reading rooms with your book and curl up in one of the uniquely designed armchairs. For a bit more activity, the Lodge is surrounded by the amazing Tasmanian countryside with plenty to explore.

Despite being an island off mainland Australia, Tasmania often reminds us of the Scottish highlands, except the weather is better. A lot better. Up on a hill overlooking Bothwell, Priory Country Lodge is surrounded by lakes and never-ending countryside views with postcard perfect rolling hills. Want to really experience the outdoors? Go with the private guides and learn how to fish for trout, visit a whisky distillery or go hunting and shooting for serious backcountry fun. Definitely a change from the average holiday.

Stay in one of four bedrooms, all with sparkling marble bathrooms that have rain head showers (our favourite) and baths perfect for a good soak at the end of the day, or anytime of day really. Did we mention the floors are heated? No cold feet here. Climb up the wooden staircase to your custom made king size bed looking over the view through the picture windows and sleep peacefully in the Tasmanian countryside.
why we like it
We love the feeling of complete escape from the real world in this country retreat. Right in the middle of an island that couldn’t get much further away from our home here in England, and an hour away from the nearest city, you could easily forget about the daily grind here. With nothing to worry about except which wine to pick from the lodge’s own cellar for dinner, or whether to go fishing today or simply explore the uniquely designed gardens of the property: stress is not a word you’ll hear. The ideal convergence of history, country and modern luxury. Pastoral perfection.
