The cultural melting pot that is Hanoi has long been one of our favourite holiday destinations in south-east Asia. The Chinese and French influences on Hanoi’s architecture, food and way of life are unmistakable and despite the city embracing modernity, it has managed to preserve much of its ancient charm (and fantastically luxurious colonial apartments).

Hanoi’s Fine Arts Museum, Temple of Literature and Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre are all fantastic places to get to grips with the city’s exciting past, present and future, but this week Vietnamese culture is on display more openly. The city’s streets will be crammed full of performers as the first ever Hanoi Street Art Festival rolls into town.

The already stunning Ly Thai To flower garden will be transformed as performing artists flood the area with installations, theatre, music and dance.

And what’s the big occasion? Well, Vietnam is celebrating its relationship with Denmark – hence the large number of European artists on the bill – but the street party is also a dry run for the huge festival set to take place next year when Hanoi celebrates its 1,000th anniversary as the capital of Vietnam – an event too good to miss.

So if you want to limber up ahead of one of the biggest parties Vietnam has ever witnessed, Hanoi’s Street Art Festival could be the perfect place to start. Five stages of music, dance and traditional culture in one of the most luxurious gardens in the city – what more could you ask for?ADNFCR-2390-ID-19438889-ADNFCR
