If you’ve racked your brains in an effort to come up with a really different place to spend your winter break this year, then stop stressing and let us tell you about Finland.

You may know from school geography lessons that it’s next to Norway and that the capital is Helsinki, but we can assure you that there’s so much more to the country, particularly at this time of year.

In fact, it’s a snowy wonderland full of beautiful, picturesque lakes and forests, plus it really comes to life in the winter with various events to celebrate the festive season.

Last time we visited Helsinki, the city was putting on its annual Lucia Parade (in fact, it’s coming up again on December 13th if you want to check it out for yourself).

This is a festival of light that commemorates the martyr St Lucia, but you don’t have to know much about religion to appreciate the beautifully decorated streets and buildings, or the little girl being crowned with candles at the end (so sweet).

However, if you’d rather partake in a more relaxing, secluded trip to Finland, we may be able to sort out just the thing for you – how does a lakeside escape sound? You’ll find out why the Lake Saimaa area is sometimes called the Land of Silence as you relax in our gorgeous cottage, which even has its own beach.

Give us a call and you could be enjoying the Northern Lights in this great retreat by Christmas.
