hotel description
Nestled on the banks of the Mohaka River, Poronui’s luxury safari camp consists of two timber and canvas tents and an amenities tent fully kitted out with luxurious furniture. This is back-to-nature without the discomfort.
location
Just 40 minutes drive from Taupo airport, Poronui is easily accessible from one of New Zealand’s main airports, yet feels far away enough from civilization for an authentic back-to-nature experience. Nestled on the banks of the Mohaka River in the Northern Hawke’s Bay region of New Zealand, it’s hidden deep in a stunning secluded valley perfect for total escape.
your room
We love how the creators of Poronui safari camp have balanced nature and luxury here. Wooden huts with canvas roofs mean you can tick the ‘camping’ box while also enjoying space and comfort. Think crisp cotton sheets on queensized beds, with just a timber wall between you and the sparkling waters of the Mohaka river. There are only two tents meaning an experience here is secluded and at night you can dine on a long wooden table by the campfire on feasts created by gourmet chefs at the lodge (which is out of sight). Local wine and twinkling stars make the perfect end to a refreshing day in the wild.
why we like it
When it comes to eco-luxury, this is pretty much as environmentally friendly as you can get. The camp is simple, yet polished in all the right places to make it appealing to everyone, which we love. Here you can go fishing and hiking in stunning scenery by day and fall asleep under the stars to the sound of the flowing river at night. Bliss.
