hotel description
Surrounded by rugged mountains and picturesque lakes on New Zealand’s North Island, Treetops lodge and estate lies on the edge of the Mamaku Plateau in some of the southern hemisphere’s most dramatic countryside. This is the pinnacle of luxury accommodation in pristine wilderness.
It’s an outdoor-lovers’ paradise, but also contains a library, games room and conservatory as well as huge airy suites to keep even the most discerning guest as happy indoors, as out.
location
Located about 30 minutes outside of Rotorua, the thermal region of New Zealand, Treetops sits in 2,500 acres of jaw-dropping scenery. The approaching drive to Treetops is spectacular as you head off road up a long gravel track leading you through magnificent native forests and valleys to the Lodge and Estate.
your room
The estate contains just eight individually-designed suites, and eight villas a short buggy ride away, giving that exclusive feel which we love. Everything has been thought of here: from the floor-to-ceiling windows for admiring the unique views, to the handmade chocolates left by your bed for sweet dreams. The wooden beams, antique furniture and creamy colours make you feel as though you’re in the depths of nature. Can’t sleep? No worries, on your bedside table you’ll also find a small tub of herbs, the smell of which will help you drift off into a blissful slumber.
why we like it
With only 16 rooms, you can hike through the surrounding countryside and rarely ever come across another person. Make sure you trek to the waterfall at Bridal Veil, and with a preprogrammed handheld GPS system with you, there’s no danger of getting lost.
what others say
Multi award-winning, and deservedly so, Treetops was voted one the top 3 properties in NZ by the Conde Nast Gold List in 2009, as well as the only New Zealand property to visit by Travel + Leisure’s Reader awards in 2008. We could go on, but the list is so long we wouldn’t be able to stop.
