It makes us exhausted just looking at this morning’s news, and we like to think of ourselves as adventurous when it comes to travel experiences.

We’re talking about the media coverage of Freya Hoffmeister, the 45-year-old German who has just finished a complete circumnavigation of Australia in a kayak, becoming the first woman to do so.

It took her a massive 332 days to complete her journey and she covered over 9,400 miles, sometimes sleeping in her vessel to save time.

She also had plenty of adventures along the way, including one which saw her encounter a shark that ate a little part of her kayak off the coast of Broome.

However, she has now made it back on to dry land and intends to write a book about her experience.

We love kayaking, but we’ll leave epic voyages like this to hard-core adrenaline junkies like Freya.

However, coincidentally, our favourite place to kayak (and dive and swim, for that matter) is also in Australia.

It’s at Ningaloo Reef, where we can paddle into the clear waters from a great eco-friendly hotel named Sal Salis that’s just metres away from the sea. Pure bliss – check it out on our website and put it on your travel to do list.
