Get help from Captain Randy and Captain Gil; the Bronzeback Guide “guarantees fish.” Lament the ones who got away over beers at Long Trail Brewing Co.

Before The Ranch at Rock Creek in Montana makes its big debut in May, use its soft opening to get acquainted with The Granite Lodge (where a third of the Western-themed guest rooms are located) and its Great Room (where you’ll relax fireside after a cocoa-making class), Silver Dollar Saloon (where you’ll bowl strikes at the four-lane alley), and the spa (where you know what happens). If you must head outdoors, a sleigh ride through Big Sky Country with hot toddy in hand will more than suffice.

Winter adventures can be a Mammoth undertaking. Historic Tamarack Lodge and Resort on the shores of Twin Lakes opened its first LEED-certified cabin. Get the group settled into the three-bedroom digs (complete with stocked kitchen), then strap on snowshoes for naturalist tours through the Eastern Sierras, free on Fridays and Saturdays through April and at night, full moon permitting.

Cruise past Park City in Utah to the new St. Regis Deer Crest Resort in Deer Valley. You’ll know you’re there when you hit Ski Beach (with snacks from Jean-Georges Vongerichten) and warm your toes by the 40-foot wall of fire, the perfect place to retire after a long (or short) day of snow tubing. Yep, even more perfect than the 14,000-square-foot (damn!) Remede Spa.
