There has been a dramatic attempt on a new skydiving record this week as a daredevil tried to parachute through the famous Hole in the Rock in the Bay of Islands. Hungarian born adrenalin junkie, Laszlo Cszimadia, has been thinking about the challenge ever since he first saw the infamous hole on a postcard and thought to himself, if a helicopter can fly through, so could he.

There is nowhere else in the world where parachuting through a rock can be done. But daredevils beware; it took Laszlo four years to work up to this challenge. Yes, four years. Including a year to organise the jump itself and getting all the necessary permissions from the relevant authorities.

The Hole in the Rock can be found on Piercy Island, otherwise known by its Maori name Motukokako Island. The Island is located on the very northern tip of Cape Brett in the Bay of Islands.

You can get up close to the hole on a boat, even cruising through narrow gap, but only when the tide is right as the boat is only centimetres from missing the edges. Definitely a heart stopping moment.

If you want to see the Hole in the Rock for yourself, we can arrange a visit on our Back to Nature experience in New Zealand.
