Whilst in Taipei we seriously recommend a short trip to the north coast. A guide will take you to the Chung Ching Park for the most breathtaking panoramic view of Keelung Harbour before making a stop at Yehliu to see the some unusual rock formations which will make you feel like you’re on Mars.
spiritual islands and moon-like lakes
Escape the city lights and submerse yourself fully into Taiwan’s awe-inspiring landscapes. You’ll be driven towards the heart of the island into the Central Mountain Range which nestles the tranquil Sun Moon Lake. At 762 metres above sea level, this is the perfect cool retreat after a stint in the city.
On the lake’s peninsular you’ll hole up in the Lalu Hotel. A stunning piece of architecture, the Lalu hotel has the most advantageous views of the lake, the tiny spiritual island, Lalu, that sits in the middle, and surrounding mountains. Along the lake’s shoreline you’ll find ancient temples, gardens and spectacular monuments which are the perfect pit stops if you’re riding around on your bike. If you’d rather explore on foot, there are some amazing trails that take you to hills blossoming with Assam tea, ancient millet, wineries and impressive Buddhist temples. And if you’re feeling even more energetic, make it in time for September when thousands of participants swim across the lake over 1.8 miles from shore to shore.

For the last leg of your trip you’ll be heading down south to the city of Kaohsiung, dropping by the Lunkang village to get a taste of Taiwan’s rural hamlets where intricate ancient temples and traditional Taiwanese homes still stand. You’ll be staying at the Splendor Hotel located in Kaohsiung’s Sky Tower. Home to Taiwan’s largest port, Kaohsiung is bursting with life. The city’s main artery is the Love River which winds through the city and its banks are filled with historical buildings, museums and coffee shops.
At night Kaohsiung is overrun with night markets selling local delicacies from bubble milk tea to oyster omelettes.
