You’ll be in for a surprise if you’re planning to visit Lake Taupo, in New Zealand’s central North Island, this month as a new dress code will be in town.
From the 12-21 February Lake Taupo will be first to host the New Zealand Body Art Festival outside of Auckland, and heads will definitely be turning when festival goers arrive wearing nothing but body paint.
The New Zealand Body Art Festival is designed to showcase the talent and creative excellence of youth, novices, graduates and professionals in what has become a dramatic and diverse art from with a major international following.
The theme for this year’s festival is Maori myths and legends and throughout the festival there will be various traditional Maori entertainment including the kappa haka, Maori music and dance displays.
Lake Taupo is New Zealand’s biggest lake and is world famous for its trout fishing scene and pristine clear waters. Surrounding lake Taupo you’ll find relaxing hot springs, gorgeous native bushes, and grand volcanoes that provide the perfect skiing slope during winter.
