the impressive private villas

the impressive private villas

Inspired by the ancient temples in the Amanjiwo Valley, this luxurious hotel is spectacular but still remains spiritual and true to its striking surroundings.  Whether you are taking time-out by the pool, sipping cocktails in the Rotunda Bar or enjoying the privacy and serenity of your suite, the views all around are out of this world.

location

The most important island in the world’s largest archipelago, Java is at the heart of Indonesian culture and commerce. Over 1,000km long, this volcanic, green and ruggedly beautiful island is about the size of England. Amanjiwo is a one-hour transfer from Yogyakarta, or two hours on the more scenic route from Solo, which passes some of the largest volcanoes in Java.

Set in an incredible location, you’ll be surrounded by aromatic coffee plantations and engulfed by four mountains (one of which is technically a volcano). The Amanjiwo is opposite the incredible Borobudur temple that can be seen from your room. From here you can set off on amazing mountain treks to see the molten lava, energetic elephant rides and jungle hikes. Not to be missed.

You will have plenty of time to explore this area with strong and proud Javanese culture and tradition. The exquisite Amanjiwo is only a few miles from the city centre, a great springboard to visit the Buddhist and Hindu temples in the area. Several interesting goods are available and if you love timeless prices, Yogyakarta is the home of batik, traditional wayang puppets, sculpture and silverware.

your room

Amanjiwo’s thirty-four suites are designed in two deep semi-circular formations with soaring limestone walls, covered with lilies and mauve & cream convolvulus that grow on the stone paths linking the suites and the pool club.

Inside the suites you’ll find amazing arched, volcanic ash coloured ceilings, paying reverence to their ancient neighbours. An impressive four-poster bed is situated on a raised platform that moulds into the smooth expanse of a caramel tiled floor. Crisp white sheets and downy plume pillows will help you sleep like a baby.

Local materials and artifacts such as coconut wood, hand carved fixtures, striking Javanese textiles and traditional glass paintings are carefully positioned to create an elegant result. Sliding glass doors open out onto garden terraces with impressive views, and a thatched pavilion offers the ideal spot for private dining or merely relaxing.

why we like it

We love indulging in the assortment of traditional Javanese beauty treatments available here. Incorporating the ancient holistic jamu technique of healing, these treatments can be enjoyed in the privacy of guest suites or in the specially designed Spa Suite, which has twin massage tables and an outdoor bale.

Stay here on our intrepid Indonesia experience.
