description
Camping in the Pafuri wilderness means staying in comfortable walk-in dome tents with cosy mattresses that will be set up for you before your arrival in camp. Each camping ground is carefully chosen in a shaded area to make your experience as comfortable as possible, so you can really feel part of the wilderness around you.
There are separate hot bucket showers and ‘eco-loos’ set apart from the camp: this is a simple, back-to-nature experience with the luxury of fantastic service and guiding. Enjoying a communal dinner around the crackling campfire before lying back and gazing at the stars whilst listening to the nocturnal wildlife makes this a truly distinctive safari experience.
location
Although you will be changing location nightly, the Pafuri Walking Trail is located within the Makuleke Concession of Kruger National Park in northern South Africa. The park is 6 hours from Johannesburg by car, and just 1 and a half hours by plane.
your room
Each tent has a comfortable mattress and plenty of room to stand up, but really, for once, it’s what’s on the outside that counts. Waking up and opening your tent door to such undisturbed wilderness is like nothing else. Each campsite is in the shade of ancient, enormous trees: you’ll really feel part of the natural world staying in this unique accommodation.
why we like it
We love getting so ‘up close and personal’ with nature and leaving such a light eco-footprint to boot. Falling asleep to the sound of big game moving through the bush land in the distance is an experience not to be missed.
