There’s nothing quite like getting word from people on the scene. So when we found out that a good photographer friend Chris was down under exploring Australia top to bottom, side to side, we immediately wanted to know his 1.3.5s to date. From watching the sun set over the eerie Pinnacles to longboarding, Chris describes to us 1 place, in 3 words, with 5 memories. Enjoy.

the eeriness of the pinnacles at sunset

the eeriness of the pinnacles at sunset

1 place the pinnacles
3 words eerie, beautiful, natural
5 memories I wasn’t sure what I’d think of the Pinnacles. We timed our drive north from Perth perfectly to hit it for sunset so I could get the best possible pictures. What I found was an eerie yet tranquil natural landscape with vast plains of naturally eroded rock sculptures. It has the same quiet reserve of a graveyard and completely amazing to explore.

a dolphin coming right up to the shallows

1 place monkey mia
3 words dolphins, rays, bliss
5 memories the three words say it all. Monkey Mia is an absolute paradise with remarkable marine life. Dolphins are regulars here, so feel free to kayak with them, feed them and learn all about them in this beautiful secluded cove. The shallows are teeming with rays of all shapes and sizes and its a great place to relax, unwind and discover the joys of snorkeling in a safe bay.

the incredible formation and patterns of wave rock

the incredible formation and patterns of wave rock

1 place wave rock
3 words stunning, obscure, unique
5 memories It’s a bit of a walk to Hyden, but Wave Rock was a whole new experience and photographers dream. It’s unbelievable to think how the patterns and formation of this rock is simply due to the force of mother nature. Because it’s quite off the beaten track, only a handful of people actually make the trip, meaning its just you and the rock.

the bustling modern city of perth

the bustling modern city of perth

1 place perth
3 words the sunday sessions
5 memories Perth is the epicentre of the West Coast. A large bustling metropolitan city that dominates an otherwise tranquil and dispersed coastline. There’s plenty to see and do here and some beautiful beaches to explore and soak up some rays. But in Perth, its all about the Sunday Sessions – when everyone flocks to the pubs and beaches for live music, ice cold beers and to watch the sun set into the ocean.

where forest meets ocean, cape tribulation

where forest meets ocean, cape tribulation

1 place cape tribulation
3 words rainforests meets ocean
5 memories If you like to explore, take peaceful walks and simply admire the true natural beauty of Australia, then Cape Trib is a must. Sleep amongst the rain forest, go crocodile spotting or simply laze about the pool. A great way to escape the city buzz of Cairns and recharge.

a wall memorial in canberra

a wall memorial in canberra

1 place canberra
3 words undiscovered secret scene
5 memories the overlooked capital of Australia has a lot to offer. Take a trip to Parliament building, an impressive structure in its own right. Or get your history fix at the War Museum, there’s so much in there it would take days to fully explore the place.

catching the surf at noosa

catching the surg at noosa

1 place noosa
3 words every longboarders mecca
5 memories this quiet little town (which borders on large village) has some of the most picturesque and pumping point breaks in the world. Watch the pros at work during the Noosa Longboard festival, or hire a board and try it for yourself. The place oozes the laid back vibe surfing it was founded upon. Top up the detox with a slap-up-meal from the numerous organic cafes or BBQ it on the golden sands.
