Caught between the rocky peaks of the Hazards and the mindboggling waters of Great Oyster Bay, Swansea boasts a truly spectacular setting. Head to Bark Mill and the Wine & Wool complex for a window onto local history and some hearty fare at the on site tavern.
Carry on south and try to keep your eyes on the road as you cruise through some immense coastal scenery. Make sure you snap the appropriately titled, convict-built Spiky Bridge before weaving through the picturesque port towns of Triabunna and Orford. Stop off at Buckland to view the beautiful stained glass window of the Church of St John the Baptist and then head on towards Hobart via the eerily intact Richmond Gaol.

After a restful night at the MONA Pavillions, wake up to explore the incredible Moorilla Estate, where eccentric art lover David Walsh has quite possibly produced the most creative space in the antipodes. From its cutting-edge winery to the immodestly modern Moo Brewery, the flavours and techniques on show are paving a way that only a few dare follow, so be sure not to miss out on a tasting session or two. You might need a little Dutch courage before entering the estate’s newest attraction – MONA – Walsh’s Museum of Old and New Art. Tasmania’s capital Hobart has so much to offer and we’ve got a couple of ideas to ensure yet another day to remember. Wander through the waterfront warehouses, with their studios, galleries, bistros and boutiques. Take in the awe-inspiring coast on a cruise around Peppermint Bay, or let us whisk you across the water to Bruny Island for a wildlife adventure that’ll blow your socks off.
Next up, make your way from Hobart to Derwent and kick back for an afternoon of sunkissed bliss at the Meadowbank Estate. Visit the cellars, talk vintages and sample the casks (take it from us, 2008 was a great year).

If after all this, you feel that it’s time to get a little more intrepid with your travels then we suggest heading to Kalimantan.  Making up two thirds of the Indonesian side of Borneo, it’s an island that conjures up a feeling in your subconscious like no where else on earth.  Ancient forests, huge waterways (Kalimantan means ‘river of gems’) and mythical tribes it’s by far one of the least travelled islands in Indonesia.

As far off the tourist radar as you can possibly get, Kalimantan is reserved for those with a true adventurer’s spirit and passion for wildlife. The sprawling city of Jodhpur is known for its blue buildings and long hours of bright sunshine, and it’s your next port of call. A scenic 6 hour journey will bring you to your drop-off point, where a tuk-tuk will take you into the walled city and to your hotel. Brand new design hotel Raas, which sits under the majestic Meherangarh Fort (one of the most impressive in the world) will be your home for two nights.

While staying at the only hotel in the old town, we highly recommend you explore the fort on foot, before catching the view from above. We’ll arrange for you to enjoy a zipline journey around the fort, taking you to parts of the structure usually cut off to the public, making this a truly unique Indian experience. Head through secret tunnels and see turrets, parks and gardens from a bird’s perspective. Simply stunning.

On to Jerusalem and into the old city. You’ll stay in the chic Mamilla hotel for three nights, where the pool and spa will be welcome after a busy day exploring. Burrow into the Kotel tunnels by the Western Wall and continue to the Wohl museum of archaeology: a six-house compound where the mosaic floors, colourful frescoes, glassware, stone objects, and ceramics provide a peek into domestic life at the top in the days of Herod and Jesus. We love the energy in the bazaars here too: Bedouin rugs and wall hangings are piled up beside fruit and sandals.

On your last day, see the Dead Sea scrolls on display at the Israel Museum, before being escorted to the City of David at the heart of town, where you’ll see the most ancient artefacts of so far. Here we recommend meeting up with our expert archaeologist who can take you into the narrow Hezakia Tunnel to see the inscriptions dating back to 701 BC, and can still be seen today. Simply fascinating.

If the idea of Israel conjures images of slowly touring museums and crumbling sights, think again. This seven night itinerary takes you from the cities deep into the Negev desert, and will have your heart pumping as you roar through the sand in a 4×4, explore deep canyons and finish it off with a soak in the therapeutic waters of the Dead Sea.

After settling into the stylish Montefiore hotel in hip party capital Tel Aviv, you’ll set off on a night tour of the Old Jaffa, one of the world’s oldest port cities, where at night the large stone walls are lit to expose every grain. Explore the narrow alleys (each is named after a Zodiac sign) where you’ll stumble across art studios, galleries and shops selling intricate jewellery and trinkets.

Arriving in Eilat after a short flight, you’ll be met by your open air 4X4 to take you off road on the dry Negev Plateau. There is something about going off road that gets us all excited, and on this desert excursion you’ll be driven to some jaw dropping canyons that put Petra to shame. The red layered walls of these Red and Eteq canyons have been smoothed by the coarse desert winds making great passages for you to stroll through. From here, head towards the Arava Valley where salt pools bring life to the arid lands, and offer the perfect haven for migrating flamingos.

Next up on your Israeli adventure, drive towards the Timna Valley for lunar landscapes in reds, sandy beiges and dusky blacks, and the huge red-hued Solomon’s Pillars – a 20 foot high freestanding mushroom you won’t forget. Staying at a kibbutz overnight, you’ll have a truly authentic (but still comfortable) experience of Israel.

In your 4X4, you’ll next re-live the spice route of the Nabateans, a group of Arab commercial nomads who trekked across the Negev with their camels. Stop off at archaeological sites and ruins before reaching the dramatic Ramon Crater: an open window into the creation of Earth. Its walls are made up of multi colour layers of rock beds embedded with history as it contains fossils of shells, plants and trees.

Time to wash off the sand and pamper yourself at the Dead Sea. Getting its name from its high salt concentration, which means nothing can survive in its waters, this sea (more importantly) means
you’ll float like a rubber duck. So rub some of the detoxifying mud on yourself, grab a book, float back and relax before making your way to Jerusalem.

Start your insider’s tour of Tel Aviv with a day’s expert guiding around the city’s architecture. Stop off at Mt. Scopus on the way to Israel’s capital for an unforgettable view of the city before heading to your designer bolthole, the Mamilla Hotel which effortlessly fuses modern design with the luxury and grandeur of old Jerusalem.

Just a short drive south of Jerusalem you’ll find the Dead Sea, perfect for a dip to refresh your body and soul and an excellent day trip. We’ve uncovered an Andalusian gem just for you, the Finca Cortesin. The hotel is a spectacular destination within itself, situated a short drive from the picture perfect Andalusian town of Casares. A couple of nights here will have you totally refreshed, having forgotten all the worries of the world.

In the afternoon why not take a short trip beyond the hotel grounds to explore the streets or Casares and the classic white washed sugar cube houses surrounding the Moorish castle. Eat in one of the nearby restaurants where you can enjoy traditional tapas. From there continue your journey down to the port town of Duquesa that hugs the coast line of Costa del Sol. Duquesa is a quaint little marina with only 300 berths where you can stroll along the waterfront and pop into a bar for sunset drinks. Andalusia is the birthplace of the world famous artist, Pablo Picasso, and a trip worth taking would be to the Plaza de la Merced in the heart of Malaga. Not only can you view numerous works of Picasso’s infamous style, but the building is full of artefacts from the beginning of Picasso’s home and cultural life.

Alternatively you can drive down the coast to enjoy the day kitesurfing at Tarifa, or explore the nearby shops and bars of Marbella. But if you’d rather get back to nature venture out behind the hills of Marbella to the Sierra de las Nieves national park. The park centres on Mount Torrecilla which soars over 1,909m above sea level. A hike around the park will take you pass deep ravines and spectacular cliffs which appear to drop off the face of the earth. But be careful where you tread as the limestone nature of the earth has created a number of potholes and its here you’ll find the worlds third deepest at 1,100meters.

If you feel like taking full advantage of the hotel facilities, go for a round on the spectacular golf course, or visit the luxury spa where you can soak in the natural indoor pool before indulging in a treatment.
