Our expert guides are some of Iceland’s best Borealis hunters

Come winter, Iceland remains our favourite setting to witness the elusive Northern Lights. Travelling between November and March offers you the best chance of catching a glimpse. We’ll make sure you have the best chance possible by setting you up with expert guides who know the best spots, timings and views (far away from the crowds, of course). Hunkered down in luxury lodges by night, this is a magical way to spend a wintery weekend; coming close to the natural world at its most enticing and obscure.

Edible delights of Reykjavik

After disembarking at Reykjavik airport, a private car will take you the short distance downtown to your hotel, The Reykjavik EDITION. The following morning explore the history and culture of this fascinating city on a food-themed walking tour. Enjoy traditional fish stew, Icelandic flatbread, dried cod, and if you’re adventurous enough, fermented shark with some cumin schnapps to wash it down. After a day of discovery retreat to the stylish surrounds of your hotel and fall into a restorative slumber.

Take a plunge into healing waters of the Blue Lagoon

Today, head out the city and into the bubbling thermal pools of the Blue Lagoon. Soak away your stresses here before continuing down to the south coast, checking in at Torfhus Retreat. A luxurious country lodge, it’s the perfect spot for chasing the Northern Lights.

Begin your guided hunt for the Northern Lights

This evening you’ll set out with an expert guide on a private Northern Lights tour. Taking you into remote corners of the Icelandic countryside, following the Lights wherever they lead you, you’ll be left mesmerised as the streaks of light dance across the sky. A natural phenomenon, the Aurora is never guaranteed but by planning to see them on your first night, you’ll at least have plenty more opportunities to catch them if unlucky this first time. So, wrap up warm and pack some patience as science does its thing.

Experience the geothermal drama of Haukadalur Valley

The next morning, get to know the mesmeric Icelandic landscapes by super jeep as you head out to the renowned sites that mark the Golden Circle. A stop in the geothermal Haukadalur valley will reveal Geysir and Strokkur geysers hurling boiling water up to 70m into the air. A visit to the dramatic Gullfoss waterfall follows before the Hvítá river abruptly plunges deep into the earth and down into a canyon covering you in a mist of cool water. From there, it’s onto the icy expanse of Langjökull glacier which doubles as the perfect arena both for photography enthusiasts and for a dose of high octane fun in the super jeep. The landscapes here are some of the most beautiful in the world with the mix of blues, whites and sunset induced neon pinks leaving you spellbound.

The black sand beaches of Reynisfjara

Tomorrow, your comprehensive Icelandic adventure continues with a private tour of Iceland’s dramatic south coast and the vast black-sand beaches of Reynisfjara beach. Take in the power of Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls as they thunder down 60 metres before rounding the corner to Sólheimajökull glacier tongue. Here, you’ll strap on your crampons as you begin a hike across the glacier, exploring the towering ice formations, deep sinkholes and jagged ridges.

One more night at the refuge of Torfhus

After one last night at Torfhus, slumbering beneath the blaze of the Aurora, it’s time to return home. Come morning, we know you’ll have an office full of jealous colleagues. The only question left, where will the next trip take you?
