The 101 was Reykjavik’s first boutique hotel and is still very close to our hearts here at Black Tomato. After numerous visits, we still get that sense of excitement when we check in, knowing full well we are in for a special experience in the heart of the old town. Owned by the Icelandic designer Ingibjorg S. Palmadottir, its clean lines and modern open-plan design means that this boutique bolthole has a perfectly refined elegance mixed with a stylish sense of comfort. After a day out exploring the countyr’s towering glaciers or a night out in Reykjavik’s buzzing bars, 101 is the ideal retreat to come home to and chill out.

Location

Just 45 minutes from the airport, Hotel 101 is at the heart of old town Reykjavik (even boasting the city’s oldest postcode). It is within touching distance of many of the country’s top restaurants and night spots and for those in need of some retail therapy; look no further.

Your room

The black and white rooms and suites at 101 exude a minimalist style that perfectly complements the modern Icelandic style found throughout the hotel. So to the details…heated oak floors, full length windows, high ceilings and designer wet rooms are just the start of the features that make your room extra special. Opt for a suite and enjoy an open plan boudoir with a Juliet balcony facing out over the old town; looking out into the bay you can just imagine the Icelandic Vikings returning home in their long boats.

Why we like it

Something missed by many hotel in Reykjavik, the food at 101 is fresh and funky and showcases the cutting edge, innovative Icelandic cuisine; accentuating the quality of the oh-so fresh seafood whilst delighting with every mouthful. Once gastronomically satiated, 101 is a great base for exploring this geologically fascinating land.
