Basico Hotel
This hotel is seriously cutting-edge with razor sharp design that you won’t find anywhere else in Mexico. We would describe the look as industrial-chic with concrete walls, exposed pipes and seemingly random objects lying about such as handcuffs, car tires, and vintage Coco-cola artifacts that really add to its quirky appeal. The rooftop bar/lounge is ‘the’ place to be every day for any hipsters looking to party until late. During the day, relax on one of the lounge chairs made from the fronts of lorries or jump in to one of the two oversized old petroleum tanks (now filled with water) to cool off. Then, don your trendiest outfit and dance your way through their cocktail menu in the evening. Martinis are definitely the drink of choice, but ask the bartender for a recommendation to try something new. The Marisqueria Bar serves the freshest fish, usually caught that day and grilled for you to see in the open kitchen, so make sure you enjoy dinner here before heading up to the roof.
location
Basico is located in the heart of the bustling Caribbean coast town of Playa del Carmen, close to restaurants, shops, bars, nightclubs and only a few steps away from the ocean. To get that bronze body you need to show off to your friends back home you can head down to the Mamitsa Beach Club, just make sure to collect a pass from the hotel staff first. You can also grab snorkeling gear from the hotel to explore the wildlife hiding under the waves.
your room
The hotel consists of 15 individual rooms distributed over four floors. The rooms are exposed with floor-to-ceiling glass walls (don’t worry, you can close the blinds), and every room has a Polaroid camera chained to the bed to capture lots of memories in this offbeat building.
Why we like it
This ultra avant-garde hotel is like nowhere else in Mexico. The industrial-chic design and top-class service make this the place to be whether you’re for sunning yourself or partying till the early hours.
