De Zeekoe
Staying at Zeekoe is akin to stepping back in time at a beautiful African farmhouse in the midst of the Klein Karoo region. Comprising of 16 rooms in the main house and four lake side cabins perched majestically overlooking the water Zeekoe is the perfect place to get off the beaten track surrounded by the stillness of the South African landscape.
Location
Zeekoe is nestled near the town of Oudtshoorn, between the majestic Swartberg and Outeniqua mountains in the heart of the Klein Karoo, part of the world famous Garden Route in South Africa. The retreatl is also set on the honed Route 62 South Africa’s longest wine route so for those who enjoy a glass of the good stuff or two, you’re in just the place. A four hours’ drive from Cape Town and a five hour drive from Port Elizabeth you’re in the perfect spot to get away from it all.
Your room
For a real back to nature experience we recommend holing up in one of the lake side cabin suites. A five minute walk from the main house you’ll find the poplar wood cabins overlooking the expansive lake with the mountains looming in the background, a pretty impressive view to wake up to you’ll agree. The spacious cabins feature large bathrooms, a lounge and kitchenette, if you’re looking for some entertainment you won’t find a TV, oh no, at Zeekoe the only sounds you’ll hear is the birdsong echoing through the air. As dusk falls fire up our own bbq for an authentic South African Braai washed down with a hearty merlot as the blood red sun sets beyond the horizon.
Why we like it
A luxurious sanctuary that has its own Meerkat tours, what’s not to love? At Zeekoe you can view these amazing critters in their natural habitat without the crowds. To view animals with a bit more bite the nearby Cango Caves with its mystical limestone towers is where you can dive with African crocodiles behind the safety of a cage of course.
