A slice of Old South splendour in the heart of the ‘Blues City’, at the historic Peabody hotel you can slip into a world of cocktails, jazz and, er, ducks. Experience the best of Southern hospitality in this landmark Memphis hotel.
Ideally located downtown, The Peabody is the perfect base from which to explore the city. Just a few blocks away is Beale Street, the city’s entertainment hub, with its numerous bars, restaurants and museums. A short trolley ride takes you to South Main where the streets are lined with chic galleries and boutiques.
Old-world grandeur prevails in each of the hotel’s rooms and suites. Expect polished wood, plush upholstery and in some cases, marble wet bars. Our pick would be the Romeo and Juliet suite—an opulent two-storey suite complete with a fireplace, floor-to-ceiling windows and a spiral staircase that cascades to the parlour below.
Why we like it
The hotel plays host to the famous Peabody Ducks which march (or waddle) like clockwork to and from the Grand Lobby at 11am and 5pm everyday to bathe in the hotel fountain. The ducks have been residents of The Peabody since 1933 when they were brought in for amusement by a hunting party. This time-honoured tradition is just one of the aspects which gives the hotel its winning charm.
