Great Escapes & Chinese Cityscapes

As some of the most densely populated cities in the world, it’s no surprise that China’s mesmerising metropolises offer some of the most eclectic architecture, cultures and cuisines that we’ve ever come across. Ancient temples merge with neon city lights, gardens of orchids with crowds of commuters.  We understand that the prospect of visiting such cities may be a little daunting, which is why we’ve collaborated with our partners to form an itinerary that will lead you to discovering the very core of the vibrant culture found in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.

Beijing Beauty

After being met by your driver you will be whisked to The Peninsula Beijing in the heart of the capital, where you will be resting your head for the next few nights. Take your first afternoon to get acquainted with the hotel, relaxing in the glass-ceilinged pool or indulging in a treatment at the award-winning spa. With the hotel’s renovation due to be completed by the autumn of 2016, expect a truly wonderful update. With each room starting at 60 square meters, your spacious abode will delight you with black and white veined marble bathrooms, Chinese calligraphy art pieces and bedside tablets for all of your tech needs. Be sure to also take Afternoon Tea in The Lobby, where you’ll be surrounded by antique furnishings and artwork by Qin Feng and Zhang Du.

Rejuvenated from a peaceful night’s rest, it’s time to lose yourself in the sights of bustling Beijing.  Gaze across Tiananmen Square, walk in the footsteps of emperors in the Forbidden City, and make your way through the maze of antiquated and interwoven hutongs (narrow alleys). The next few days will see you exploring every nook and cranny of China’s colourful capital, from the Great Wall and Ming Tombs to the cult 798 Art District; the Temple of Heaven to the iconic Bird’s Nest of the Olympic Park.

Shimmering Shanghai

New day, new city. Enjoy a leisurely wake-up on your sixth day before your driver escorts you to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. From luxurious comfort in Beijing to city glam in Shanghai, The Peninsula’s second city outpost will be your home for the next few nights. For your first evening, take in the twinkling lights of the city with a cocktail at The Peninsula’s Sir Elly’s Terrace, overlooking the Huangpu River, Suzhou Creek, Garden Bridge and the futuristic Pudong skyline. With the next three days to explore the city, take your pick between wandering the elegant tree-lined streets of the French Concession, exploring the maze of pavilions and arched bridges in the Yu Garden, feeling the pulse of local life at Fuxing Park, and uncovering the stories of Shanghai’s oldest districts. Before you know it you’ll recognise the different parts of this bustling metropolis like a true local.

Hong Kong Heights

The Fragrant Harbour calls, so arise on your tenth day ready for your flight to the soaring skyscrapers and harbour depths of Hong Kong. You’ll be staying in The Peninsula Hong Kong, the city’s oldest hotel, offering a blend of the best of Eastern and Western hospitality in an atmosphere of unmatched classical grandeur and timeless elegance. Over the next couple of days, take a ride on the longest elevator in the world, relax on the beach at Repulse Bay and earn a respite from the city lights with a tram ride up to the tropical shades of Victoria Peak. It’s time for your city tour to come to an end, but with China’s metropolises offering such a variety of sky high buildings, blissful parks, and sandy beaches, we won’t blame you if you want to extend the trip.
