Hotel Budir, West Iceland

In the midst of nowhere, atop a peninsula overlooking glistening waters, Hotel Budir is splendid isolation at its very best. Surrounded on all sides by wild nature, stepping into this charming boutique hotel offers a warm embrace. Cosy and elegant, the 28 guestrooms boast spellbinding views over some of Iceland’s most stunning scenery, whilst down in the restaurant, talented chefs serve up some of its best cuisine. Shut the door to the elements and snuggle up by the fire on this picture-perfect getaway.

Location

Two hours’ drive west of Reykjavik Airport and a world away from city life, Snaefellsnes Peninsula is a taste of Iceland’s wilder side. Icy cold seas, jagged mountains, steaming lava fields and the mighty Snaefellsjokul Glacier; it’s a natural playground for adventure. Head out into Breidafjordur Bay and visit the quiet island of Flatey. Stroll through the quaint streets of Stykkisholmur. Catch a glimpse of breaching orcas in Grundafjordur. Or head into Snaefellsjokul National Park for glacier hikes, snowmobiles and ice climbs aplenty.

Your Room

Is there anything better than the best views in the house coming from the comfort of your bed? We certainly don’t think so. Wild landscapes of black sand beaches and snowcapped peaks with a charming black church amid it all; the views from the rooms at Hotel Budir are some of our favourites to wake up to. Beautiful inside and out, each of the 28 rooms at Hotel Budir offers a dash of remote luxury, but for that extra charm-factor, opt for one of the loft suites and cosy up amongst the eaves. Whilst if you’re looking for something a touch more sumptuous, spread out in the Master Suite with its private sitting room.

Why we like it

Ok. We can’t talk about Iceland and not mention the Northern Lights. Far from the city lights of Reykjavik in a remote corner of West Iceland; Hotel Budir is up there with our favourite places to spot them. Sipping on one of the bar’s signature cocktails, it’s one special light show. But if you’re not feeling up to an all-night stakeout? The concierge has got you covered and can arrange a special Aurora wake up call to make sure you don’t miss out.
