How long

9 nights ideal length

Ethereal. Hypnotic. Otherworldly. When it comes to Iceland, there is no shortage of words to convey the sheer might of its landscapes. This is a place where your eyes will widen and your jaw will drop with every glacier, lagoon and volcanic chamber you cross. By the end of this action-packed and discovery-filled nine-night trip, you’ll have quad biked across black sand beaches, descended deep into the centre of the earth and hiked across crevasse-riddle glaciers. It’s mile-a-minute in the best way possible. By night, retreat to luxury lodges nestled into sweeping landscapes and slip into steaming geothermal waters as we bring you the best of the best of Iceland – and then some.

Relax into Reykjavik

Touchdown in Reykjavik and we’re whisking you straight from the airport into the spa. No ordinary spa, the Retreat at Blue Lagoon is perched on the shores of the lagoon’s famously tempting waters. Better still, your luxurious suite for the night will open up onto your own private corner of the lagoon. For more pampering, head down into the subterranean spa where some of the world’s most innovative treatments await you. Once you’ve had your fill, spend the afternoon out on the Reykjanes Peninsula on a private tour filled with hot springs, tectonic rifts, volcanic craters, lunar landscapes and lava fields.

Make this itinerary yours

Each and every Black Tomato trip is tailored exactly to who you are and what you want to do So tell us about yourself and we’ll create something that’s entirely you.

Start Planning

Out at Krýsuvík, your private guide will take you past the bubbling multi-coloured mud springs of this geothermal area, before coming to the Mid-Atlantic ridge where you’ll be able to walk the Bridge Between Continents. Straddling a major rift between the European and North American plates, it’s an experience you won’t find anywhere else. From here, you’ll then hop on the back of an ATV as you make your way over Festarfjall mountain up to the lava and black sands of Selatangar beach before ending the day atop Hagafell mountain looking out over the nature-whipped landscapes of this wild corner of Iceland.

Into the Volcano & Across the Lagoon

Some of Iceland’s best adventures lie just a stone’s throw from its capital and your chic crash pad at Canopy – such as a trip inside the chamber of a dormant volcano. After a hike across a lava field, you’ll descend 400ft into the magma chamber of Thrihnukagigur volcano in a unique experience which guarantees bragging rights back home. Going further afield, you’ll then jump in a helicopter the next morning and head down to the south coast. Soaring over volcanic beaches, tumbling waterfalls and the brooding presence of Eyjafjallajokull volcano, only the vast and shimmering expanse of Vatnajokull Glacier Lagoon awaits you. Hop onboard a private zodiac and glide across the water, getting up close and personal with its towering icebergs and playful seal colonies, against the braided river backdrop of Fjallaback nature reserve.

The Adventurer’s Playground

From Reykjavik, it’s then up north to the remote Fljot Valley and the luxurious Deplar Farm. A place where adventure abounds, spend two nights breathing it all in as you horseride, whale watch and fly fish to your heart’s content. Complete with encyclopaedic expert guides and terrain to make your jaw drop, your time at Deplar is sure to be well spent. Two days later, the adventure continues a little further west, out on the Snaefellsness Peninsula. Get to grip with your surroundings on a private tour of Borgarfjörður, Hraunfossar and the Hvita River, before spending the next two nights ensconced at Hotel Búðir. An untouched wilderness, in the morning we’ll take you into the heart of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula to Vatnshellir cave as you begin your very own Jules Verne-esque Journey into the Centre of the Earth with exclusive access to head deep into the cave.

Iceland’s Geothermal Hot Spring Hike

Capping off your adventure, you’ll head down to the south coast, home to some of Iceland’s most iconic landscapes and the luxurious Skálakot Lodge. Start things off in the Golden Circle, winding your way through Þingvellir National Park to Geysir geothermal area and onto Gulfoss waterfall. Whether it’s the vast black lava sand beaches, the thundering waterfalls of Skogafoss and Seljalandfoss or the spectacle of Dyrholaey puffin rock, you’ll have all the time in the world and all the freedom from the crowds to choose your own path with your expert guide tailoring your day to your liking. One thing you simply can’t miss however is a private hike across Solheimajokull glacier. Riddled with deep crevasses, amazing ice formations and sinkholes, it’s sure to get your heart racing one last time.

Tomorrow, it’s time to pack away your hiking boots, download images off the camera and say farewell to the land of Fire & Ice. But in a place as unique as this, there is always another corner to come back to.
