Evolve Back Kabini, Karnataka

At one with both the local tribal culture and the diverse wildlife that roams the riverbanks, Evolve Back Kabini is an invitation to experience the spirit of this mysterious land. A place where luxury is centred on peace, tranquillity and harmony first and mod-cons and Michelin second, a stay here lets nature do the talking. But this certainly can’t be called roughing it. What with 37 incredibly spacious huts opening onto private pools and jacuzzis, dining by candlelight on the river, an Ayurvedic village and expert guides with you every step of the way; this is an escape to the wild in the utmost style.

Location

Perched on the banks of the Kabini River as it snakes its way through Nagarhole National Park, Evolve Back Kabini is surrounded on all sides by wild and untamed nature. Home to the world’s largest concentration of Asiatic elephants as well as tigers, leopards and wild dog, the wildlife here easily rivals that of the great plains of Africa. So it’s only right that you’re given ample opportunity to see it all with boat safaris, game drives, nature walks and nocturnal safaris too. A two-hour drive from the nearest airport at Mysore, Kabini makes the perfect contrast to the bustling cities.

Your Room

Evolve Back Kabini has perfected the art of treading lightly as, whilst on the outside, colours and textures of the natural landscape are used to camouflage the 37 huts against their backdrop, inside is a whole other story. Step through and discover vast, wide open living spaces which bring a sumptuous warmth to your stay. Whilst ethnic furnishings and tribal patterns belie the inspiration from the local Hadi villages, the sprawling private pools and jacuzzis prove that this is tribal living at its most luxurious.

Why we like it

Evolve Back Kabini has never forgotten its traditional roots and its ties to the local Kadu Kuruba tribe. Everything they do here has a sprinkle of historical culture – whether that’s an evening dance performance by the campfire or a trip down the river in a traditional round Coracle boat. Even the fine dining restaurant, Honey Comb is named after the local honey gathering Jenu Kuruba tribe. Couple that with a menu of regional delicacies alongside international favourites and you’re left in no doubt of exactly where you are.
