High in the hills

Now for a change in scenery, and what scenery it is. From the metropolis of Delhi, you will take to the skies and head north to Leh, the capital of refreshing Ladakh.  Spend the next week on a trek through the small, unexplored valleys and villages on the north side of the Indus Valley. Watch the yaks grazing on the sumptuous high pastures and bear witness to local village life that is largely undisturbed and still plays host to ancient traditions. The route from Stakmo will take you from 3600m to 4300m before arriving at the Shakti Village House in Eego. These traditional village houses will be your havens over the course of the week as you enjoy the traditional style décor that, even given the remote location, refuses to lack comfort or luxury.

Shrines and summer dwellings

As you continue your walk you will come across a small valley with local shrines and summer dwellings. Commonly known as Aazo, this region is only inhabited for a few months in the summer and sits high above the Indus Valley with the monastery of Thiksey below you in the distance. The valley below Aazo opens out into a boulder strewn moonscape caused by a combination of glacial and high-level water flows. A stunning view and the perfect spot to escape the nine to five monotony. Enjoy delectable delights prepared by your private chef and unwind to the sound of the crackling fire with your choice of tipple.

Enjoy a few nights camping under the Milky Way and wake up in Nang where you have the opportunity to gain a wonderful insight into traditional village life. Spend the next few days exploring the Sakti valley, stopping off for a picnic lunch and to admire the culmination of monasteries before returning to Eego and being welcomed with a refreshing glass of something sweet.
