Mandalay Hill Resort, Myanmar

A decadent yet peaceful hotel, located in the luscious greenery of northern Mandalay, Mandalay Hill Resort boasts panoramic views of the Royal Palace and beyond. If a voyage of cultural and historical discovery is what you’re after, then this is the place for you as it lies in reach of some of the most fascinating archaeological sites in the world. With 206 rooms in classic Oriental and Burmese style, it is impossible not to fall in love with this resort and its surroundings.

Location

Mandalay Hill Resort sits at the bottom of the famed hill after which it takes its name, just an hours flight away from the city of Yangon. The Mandalay area is the cultural heart of Myanmar making it every explorer’s dream. Mandalay Hill itself houses both the Kuthodaw and Shweyattaw Temples making it an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists. Make sure to look out on the hill at sunset when it is especially beautiful. Close by you can also visit the ancient capitals of Amapura, Ava and Saigang or take a trip to the spectacular Kandawgyi Botanic Garden.

Your room

There is a huge range of accommodation on offer at Mandalay Hill Resort as you take your pick of deluxe rooms to suites and gorgeous spa villas. Each room has a view of Mandalay Hill, the Royal Palace, the Irrawaddy River or the city of Mandalay itself. Interiors are decorated with local Myanmar Teak and take inspiration from the ancient designs of the Shan and Intha peoples native to Myanmar. If you’re looking for utter relaxation and serenity then the spa villas will be right up your street. These bungalows are nestled in the gardens of the resort and come equipped with twin massage beds, a steam room and tropical garden shower too.

Why we like it?

The hotel’s location is what makes it so special. The views are spectacular and it is the perfect place to base yourself before venturing out to marvel at the surrounding monasteries, temples and pagodas. The spa treatments are definitely high on our list as well; enjoy a traditional reflexology treatment in the outdoor pavilion amidst the palm trees followed by a rejuvenating cup of herbal tea from the highlands of Myanmar.
