Hidden right in the misty hills of northern Thailand, this tropical retreat is a new favourite of ours. The spacious 53 suites are fresh and airy, with a contemporary Thai style. Spend your days chilling by the pool, coconut cocktail in hand or venture out into the rich natural environment and off to ancient settlements, Buddhist shrines and temples.
Tranquil and secluded, the Katiliya is located between the city of Chiang Rai, Mae Sai and Sio Mae, which are all fantastic for day trips. We’d recommend visiting Wat Phra Kaew in Chiang Rai, the city’s most revered Buddhist temple which dates back to the 13th century. You can reach this little paradise by driving 40 minutes from Chiang Rai international airport, which of course we’ll organise. Before you know it you’ll be settled in, trekking through the jungle by elephant and visiting the picturesque villages of the hill tribes.
All the rooms at Katiliya are spacious suites, decorated in natural shades to blend with the environment. Lying in your king sized bed, you’ll be able to observe the luscious valleys below and out across to the mountains.
Why we like it
Bathed in natural beauty, the Katiliya is in an undeniably relaxing environment. To top it off the hotel spa, situated on the lake, can ease away any remaining tensions and stress. After your rejuvenating treatment, hop into the sauna or into the outdoor Jacuzzi for spectacular views of the mountains.
