Ski the wilds of Wyoming

Calling all hardcore snow lovers, pack your ski socks, breathe in that fresh mountain air and gear yourself up for one wild, high octane winter adventure.  Rest assured, this is one unusual ski holiday. Fall under the spell of the Tetons as you explore the winter backcountry of Wyoming by ski and reach untouched snow as we map out some of our favourite ski areas around Jackson Hole.

Jackson Hole enjoys some of the best skiing this side of the Atlantic. Off-piste skiing in ‘The Hole’ is the norm but Jackson has an ‘open-gate boundary policy’ which means you have unlimited access to an infinite area of backcountry to frolic in.  Trust us, you won’t find this much ski-dom anywhere else.

And the best bit? We’ll throw in a three day ski pass and map out all the best the backcountry inside tracks so you can make the most of the 1,000 hectares of open terrain.   And psst, we’ll find you the best angle to take on The Hole’s vertical drop of more than 4,000 feet.

snowdown in the west

The ski-in-ski-out Amangani will be your crash pad and only 20 minute from Jackson Hole airpot, unwind from the journey, unpack your ski boots and curl up by the blazing fire or take in the view from the 30 meter heated outdoor infinity pool.
Full relaxation is now needed as over the next three days dramatic landscapes, vertical drops, terrific terrain and thick, mountain snow awaits you.  So whether you explore solo or head out with one of our expert guides, this is backcountry luxury ski-in-ski-out skiing at its best. And after a day trying out the backcountry, if you’re not into the steep and deep, Jackson has some of the best groomed trails in the country.

stetsons and skis

Spend the first two days perfecting your parallels.  The mountain’s ‘yeehaah’ attitude is infectious and will push even the most cautious, habit-bound skiers down slopes littered with names like ‘Once is Enough’ and ‘Nose Bleed’. If you’re new to powder, then you’ll need to get yourself some ‘fat boy’ powder skis for extra flotation in the fluffy stuff.

And to make sure you have a much needed break to recharge the batteries and rest those burning thighs, we’ve booked you into for a complementary lunch at our private ski lounge in the heart Teton Village.  This picturesque alpine village is just steps from the Bridger Gondola an Aerial Tram so you can get back on the slopes before you know it.

jump aboard the cat

On your final full day on the slopes, jump on board a ‘snow groomer’ and head up almost vertical slopes in the back of beyond.  Cat-skiing is a hot ticket in The Hole. Especially since you no longer need a chopper and a Donald Trump size bank account to get that ultimate ski thrill.  You’ll jump aboard the mighty snow cat – a monster tank-like contraption that will churn through snow to reach the spellbinding landscapes of the Rockies, the glorious gateway to open bowls and virgin snow.  The immensity of the territory is quite staggering and with guides to take you to the best locations, this makes for one unforgettable trip.

off the piste

Don’t want to ski all day? No problem, head back to the Amangani spa, the perfect escape from the winter chill with rejuvenation and balm for ski-weary limbs.

After a total rewind, pick up the pace and spend the afternoon at the famous Mangy Moose après ski bar (try and take on one of their giant burgers if you dare) and roll into explore the rest of Teton village that evening.  Mixing wild west atmosphere, live music, swing door saloons, wooden sidewalks with lots of snow and beer.  This is the perfect snowy showdown.
