Oregon is the culinary haven you might not have heard of. But since it’s home to over 700 vineyards and an endless supply of truly incredible cuisine; we’re confident that this lush state will soon burst onto the radar of every travelling foodie around, and with a vengeance. Looking for an alternative destination for 2017? Then let us just remind you of exactly why Oregon is the ultimate gourmet choice for your next adventure stateside…
A WORLD OF WINE
As we said, Oregon is home to over 700 vineyards, meaning you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to finding your perfect vino. Some of our favourite spots lie in the revered South Willamette Valley, where you can have a go at ticking as many wineries of your list as possible. And to make it even more memorable, why not take part in Wine Bingo (yep, bingo)? With your tasting card to hand, we’ll take you on a little vineyard-hop. And yes, there are prizes involved too. Intrigued? Us too.
CASUAL MARKETS & EXCLUSIVE INSTITUTIONS
We’re convinced there’s something in the water in Oregon. How else could one state be so inundated with quirky farmer’s markets, local producers and world-class restaurants? Without a doubt, it’s a place that nurtures creativity, and the proof is in the pudding (excuse the pun) at Portland’s Farmer’s Market where you can sample anything from homemade ice-cream to handmade chocolate truffles. Then you’ve also got places like Restaurant Beck, outside of the city, that will need three hours of your time for a tasting menu of epic proportions. And you’ll never regret it.
BREWED TO PERFECTION
When you’re not drinking wine, we would strongly urge you to try as many of Oregon’s beers as possible. A hub for local breweries; the state will have you enjoying delicious and creative brews. Our favourites? The Three Creeks Brewing Company and Solera Brewery we’ll never get bored of. For the ultimate treat – allow us to take you on a beer tour through Portland.
