Georgie Bremner is the Director of the Buttermilk Ski and Snowboard School and certainly knows a thing or two about the slopes of Aspen. Having learnt most of her skills in Austria, Georgia now lives and works in Aspen where she fell for the local lifestyle. We recently caught up with her to see if she could give us a few insider tips…
Tell us a bit about who you are and what you do.
My role involves managing the Buttermilk Ski & Snowboard School, examining ski instructors with PSIA and testing skis for SKIING magazine. I am also an ambassador with the ski and snowboard manufacturer Elan. I have two children and love living in a ski town because there are so many amazing things to do on my days off.
How did you first get into skiing?
As the youngest in my family, I was always motivated to catch up and surpass my siblings. We used to ski at Mt Ruapehu, an active volcano in New Zealand – the scenery and mountain lifestyle are some of my favourite childhood memories.
And at what point did you realise you wanted to make a career out of skiing?
Moving to Colorado I recognized the opportunity for this to be a possible career as well as the best job in the world.
Where have you skied around the world?
New Zealand, Australia, Europe, China, USA and Canada.
Why is Aspen such a special ski destination? What sets it apart from others?
The variety of mountains, the grooming, the powder, the town, the people… pretty much everything. It’s a must visit destination for anyone who loves snow.
Do you have a favourite ski run in Aspen?
It depends on my mood – there are just so many amazing places to have fun with your friends and family and meet great people.
Where would you go for the perfect après ski scene?
Totally depends on where I’m skiing that day.
Do you have a favourite local’s hangout you can let us in on?
Belly Up is a great local music venue. It’s such an intimate setting and always attracts good bands.
Aspen has a great winter events calendar. What’s your favourite of the season?
The World Cup Nature Valley Aspen Winternational – very inspirational.
