You may be starting to get the idea that Colombian plays host to dramatic and vast environments. Well you’d be right, there is no room for plain, dull or empty in this country, so on any given snooze-worthy Monday morning, why not lose yourself in the colours and majesty of Colombia’s Amazonia?
We can throw figures at you all day, and it will never quite portray the true scale of this incredible ecosystem, but we’ll give it a go anyway. The Amazon covers around seven million square kilometres of Central and South America, so that’s about 25 times greater in size than Great Britain? That’s a whole lot of tropical wonder. With a jungle on such a scale, you can only begin to imagine the variety of creatures and colours that are tucked away amongst the vines and palms. Not to mention the hidden tribes and species yet to be discovered. It’s a magical place to explore.
Touchdown in Letica, the southernmost part of Colombia, and you’ve reached the green gates of the Amazon, ripe for adventure. We urge you to get yourselves onto a boat down the Amazon River where you can spot the elegant river dolphin, and the sly Caiman crocodile swimming amongst the piranhas. For an eye opening experience, you can even spend a day with the local fisherman learning about catching and cooking local marine life.
This is bucket list stuff and once you’ve experienced it, your passion for preserving it will be fuelled for years to come. Picture yourself back in the magical surroundings of the Amazon and you’ll have a heady distraction from the working week ahead.
