This magical region of southern Italy is one of stunning natural beauty and is ideal for a meandering road trip, (in a vintage Italian car, obviously).
At a glance
It’ll be hard to keep your eyes on the wheel while exploring this gorgeous area by car, as you drive by magnificent landscapes and breathtaking scenery. As you motor along discover the wealth of little-known villages and towns, nestled into the mountains and deep green hills that arc and roll towards the turquoise Tyrrhenian Sea.
What to see
Make your way to the ancient centre of Maratea’s medieval old town to explore its beguiling streets, ornate churches and the local archaeological finds exhibited in the Convento dei Cappuccini and the Palazzo de Lieto Museums. Also close by are the historical centres of Rivello, Lagonegro and Nemoli; three of the most picturesque towns in the region. For some off the road time, head to the coast on the Tyrrhenian side, which is famous around the world for the richness and beauty of its seabed and countless small beaches.
Why we love it
Road-tripping around this beautiful region allows you to see it at your own pace, giving you the opportunity to take in all its splendour, (which it has in abundance).
