At a glance
As famous for its foodie credentials as it is for its heart-stopping scenery, British Colombia (or BC as it’s more affectionately known) serves up chic cosmopolitan cities alongside remote coastal landscapes and stunning Pacific Ocean islands. Definitely a must-see if you’re a “have your cake and eat it” kind of person, you could find yourself on an entirely new patch of land every day of the week. From deserted white sand beaches to lush wine valleys and wide waterways lined with towering mountains and ancient Cedar trees, the options are almost endless.
Where to go
All glass and sleek modern cityscapes, Vancouver has a vibrant culinary scene which sees world class chefs from across the globe convene to create innovative and exciting menus featuring fresh local produce. Hop across the water to experience a different side of the city on Vancouver Island and spend a relaxing afternoon kayaking on calm waters in the sleepy town of Tofino. Wine connoisseurs should set off for the Okanagan Valley (dubbed the “Napa of the North”) where vineyards are flanked by wildflowers and vast lavender fields and your wine is served straight from the cask. For a fashion conscious artsy vibe, check out BC’s capital city Victoria and meander your way around the stylish boutiques and museums.
Why we love it
Offering up an ultra-modern slice of Canada, in BC you can be kayaking in the morning, Orca-watching in the afternoon and sitting in a chic rooftop bar as soon as the sun goes down. Not only are you guaranteed to sample some incredible scenery, but you will do so alongside lively cities and adventure packed excursions – from bungee jumping over river canyons to zip-trekking through lush forests. If you’re after something a little less high octane then there‘s plenty more to see on solid ground, much of which can be done wine glass in hand. Well if we must, we must.
