With its laid-back philosophy on life and fabulously eclectic, colourful scenery, from golden beaches and glittering cities to the lush pastures of its wine country and national parks; this state deserves every drop of praise it’s given.
Whether you’ve already booked, it’s top of your bucket list or you’ve been once, twice, even ten times before, there’s a never ending list of things to see and do in California. So, with this in mind, we’ve decided to put a fresh filter on just one aspect of our all-time favourite destinations; food and drink. The Black Tomato film crew jetted off with Air New Zealand to spend time on location in California capturing beautiful footage of some of our favourite gastronomic hot spots. From the glamour of the bountiful southern coastline to the more rugged farmlands upstate, and the plethora of urban life along the way, we want to give you a taster (quite literally) of this magical, sun-drenched adventure-ground. Restaurateurs, chefs, sommeliers and local producers, we met the experts to get the inside scoop. It’s time to start living the dream in this vibrant all-American state.
