Serious cocktail connoisseur? Well you’re in the right city. San Francisco is just bursting to show you its best concoctions; from sleek establishments to speakeasies so well hidden you’ll walk on by if you’re in the wrong hands, the city is sure to quench your thirst. Whether you’re in the hip Mission, vibrant Castro or the lofty surroundings of the financial district, the city has an abundance of masterful mixologists.
Bourbon & Branch
Step back in time as you unlock some of the finest speakeasies. Bourbon & Branch is perhaps not the best kept secret, but maintains an air of mystery with its inconspicuous doorway and password-only policy. Inside you’ll find a haven from the busy streets and, more importantly, a serious cocktail list. But the real gem of this joint is the hidden speakeasy within it… we’ll leave you to discover more.
Perhaps you want to indulge in a little warehouse chic? Burritt Room, inspired by the classic movie ‘The Maltese Falcon’, is a roaring replica of a 1920s bar, complete with exposed brick, chandeliers and high ceilings. Flapper dresses are not obligatory but you’d probably fit right in.
Mixing local bar and stylish lounge, Blackbird, perched on the edge of the Castro, is described as ever classic but never stuffy. Be a San Franciscan for the night and indulge in the sleek decor. The cocktail list is extensive but you’d be a fool to ignore the Chipotle Bloody Mary.
And one of our absolute favourites, Comstock Saloon, a relaxed watering hole that honours the classics with turn of the century saloon fare. This beautiful bar pays apt tribute to the history of the building it is housed in, which has been a drinking spot since 1907. Such diligence to authenticity is as refreshing as the cocktails it serves.
