Only a few hours to go until work is over for the week, so kill a few more minutes and come with us on a tour of Colonial Cartagena de Indias; one of Colombia’s most charming historic towns.
Located on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, Cartagena de Indias is full of romance and legend. The old colonial section, otherwise known as the ‘walled town’, is a particularly beautiful UNESCO world heritage site. Spanish colonial architecture, bright colours and crumbling walls full of history will surround you as you ramble through, whilst remarkably preserved monuments and dilapidated forts are reminiscent of a turbulent, yet spirited past.
Mystique and historical wonder is condensed at sites such as the Parque de Bolivar, the Palace of the Inquisition and Las Bovedas (The Vaults). Stopping off at these sites, as well as just finding your own path and rhythm through the walled city, is the best way to soak up Cartagena de Indias’ thick atmosphere.
A country steeped in rich history and teeming with beautiful cities; don’t be surprised if this Colombian landscape crops up in your dreams this weekend…
