Yosemite National Park… one of the most magical and breath-taking landscapes you can see, but we’ve discovered there is more to this beauty spot than incredible views. Would it surprise you to hear there’s a world-class food and wine scene as well? And we’re not just talking about the lovely restaurants you’ll find scattered throughout the park. There are a series of annual events that celebrate the bounty of produce from the area and the talented culinary masters that are drawn by it. Reward a day of exploring with a unique gourmet experience; what could be better?
CHEF’S HOLIDAY – JANUARY AND FEBRUARY
For a truly unique dining experience in Yosemite, join in with the annual celebrations of Chef’s Holiday. See acclaimed chefs gather and demonstrate their razor sharp skills, guide you round their private kitchens and share secrets of the culinary magic they perform each day. You will, of course, find exquisite food along the way –and this culminates in a fabulous gala dinner at the end of the celebrations. Get your black tie ready, this is something not to be missed by all you foodies out there.
BLAZING HOG BBQ COMPETITION – SEPTEMBER
In true American style, Mariposa hosts an annual BBQ competition, where vendors from all over California come to this little town to have a cook off. Visitors are invited to taste all the delights on offer before a panel of judges cast votes for the best chicken, ribs and tri-tip. And when you’ve had your fill of barbequed meats, you can sit back and listen to the live blues bands that fill the streets of Mariposa with their music.
VINTNERS’ HOLIDAY – NOVEMER AND DECEMBER
In the two months running up to Christmas Yosemite witnesses the annual Vintners’ Holiday Celebrations; a series of spectacular wine related events to celebrate the Fall harvest, perfect for the discerning wine aficionados. From tastings and seminars, to meeting the vintners and an incredible five course gala dinner, this event is a treat for everyone, but especially you wine lovers. And all the while this event is going on, the park is sitting pretty in the back drop, waiting patiently. We personally couldn’t think of better place to celebrate the Vintners’ Holiday.
BRACEBRIDGE DINNER – DECEMBER
Taking place in the iconic dining room of the Awahnee, the annual Bracebridge Dinner is the opportunity to indulge in a seven course banquet, a feast accompanied by the song, dance and general joviality. The great dining hall is magnificently transformed into the style of a 17th Century English manor, where you can revel in a beautifully crafted four-hour pageant that will instill Christmas cheer in even the most Scrooge-like of attendees. You’ll almost certainly become part of the history of the hotel by attending the Bracebridge Dinner.
