Whether you’re going it alone – only for the brave – or taking advice from the wife to be, we are here to help you make the very best of a once in a lifetime chance; the perfect honeymoon.

DO start planning the honeymoon well in advance. We think about 6 months should do it, so that you have plenty of time to chat through your ideas together and with a travel expert, secure availability and play around with the itinerary until it is absolutely perfect.

DO take some advice if packing her suitcase for a surprise honeymoon. Consult a close female friend. Trust us. You will almost certainly get it wrong on your own.

DO surprise her with something special. Even if she knows where you’re going, it’s a nice touch to plan a little surprise such as a hike before sunrise or a hot air balloon ride. Whatever it is, make sure you hold a little something back to surprise her with.

DO consider a mini-moon with a bigger trip later on. We know it’s a bit of a daft name, but mini-moons are becoming increasingly popular. The idea is to take a few days break after the big day, followed by a bigger trip a little later in the year. Why have one, when you can have two.

DO stay in amazing hotels. This is the one time you need to find somewhere incredible to stay, especially for the debut night. There are so many beautiful boutique hotels with authentic interiors, set amidst staggering scenery; you just need to know where to look. That’s what we’re here for.

DO talk about it as a couple. Cage diving with sharks in the depths of South Africa may be your ideal honeymoon, but if your new wife would rather hide away in a beach hut on stilts then make sure you know that before you take off. Sounds obvious, but talk it through – there’s always somewhere that can suit you both, just make sure you know what you both want out of your trip.

DO NOT book the exact same honeymoon your best mate found his bride-to-be. Make her feel special by putting a little bit of time and thought into proceedings and personalising the trip to suit the pair of you.

DO NOT fall into the honeymoon-trap. We’re talking about those conveyor-belt style honeymoons where you find yourself one of any number of tables-for-two, virtually on top of the couple next door. There’s no danger of that happening with a Black Tomato Luxury Honeymoon as your trip will be tailored to your specific needs – and we love to take you off the beaten track.

DO NOT assume you have to ‘fly and flop’ on honeymoon. Yes, it’s all about the sumptuous Egyptian cotton sheets and miles of bleached white sand, but you can still hike a mountain, swim with whale sharks or spot giraffes if you’ve always wanted to.

DO NOT assume flight upgrades are complimentary as standard. Unfortunately, this is becoming an incredibly rare occurrence for honeymooners. If you want to guarantee yourself a first class seat for the special trip, you’ll need to book it.

DO NOT try and book it all by yourself. Thanks to the internet everything is available at your fingertips, but a honeymoon, more than any other trip, needs to be planned by someone that can give it their undivided attention, creativity and expertise. Not only do we have a dedicated team at Black Tomato HQ that will put together the perfect itinerary for you – we are on hand 24/7 should you need us while you’re away.

Piece of cake.
