If you love your food as much as we do, then tucking into a true Texan BBQ will be at the top of your to do list whilst in Fort Worth. Luckily for all of us, this city is certainly no stranger to the nation’s favourite wood smoked meats. Whether it’s a juicy steak or an authentic local hang out you’re after, here are just a few of our favourites to help you make the most of this delicious traditional fare.
Angelo’s BBQ is famous for serving up some of the tastiest cuts of meat and its friendly neighbourhood charm. The clap-board exterior will transport you back to a time of laid back Texan life and the unique interior décor wonderfully reflects Angelo George’s own experiences of traditional Fort Worth living. Served on authentic trays, you can select succulent smoked ribs, pork loin, and marinated chicken or, for something a little different, try the restaurant’s new Brisket Tacos. The 50 year old restaurant is also famous for its original signature seasonings, which you can buy and bring home with you to add some Texan flair to your own kitchen.
Here at Woodshed Smokehouse you can sit on the patio and look out over Trinity River whilst tucking into some smoked dishes. The Woodshed is the brainchild of Chef Chris Love, known throughout Fort Worth for his top notch urban cooking. Along with live blues, country music and DJ nights, the restaurant cooks up their meat on two wood grills to really enhance the flavour. The menu is constantly rotating and offers a choice of meat cooked on mesquite, oak, hickory or pecan wood. If you want to start your day the Texan way, try out the breakfast menu and add a dose of beef brisket or BBQ pulled pork.
If it’s simply a perfectly cooked steak you’re after, then look no further than the Hunter Brothers’ H3 Ranch. Deemed one of the best steak houses in Fort Worth, this cosy restaurant cooks up juicy strips from the beautiful 9oz Tenderloin to the feisty 18oz Porterhouse. Located in the centre of the city’s historic Stockyards, the food at H3 really stands out from other restaurants in this area. And if you feel like you’ve already had enough beef in Fort Worth, then maybe the Alaskan King Crab, Hickory Grilled Shrimp or Spit Roasted Pig will take your fancy.
Billy Oak Acres BBQ
For the ultimate Texan BBQ, Billy Oak Acres has just the menu. From the outside it may look like a little wood shack, but the smell of freshly cooked meat that oozes from the smoker alerts all passers-by to the deliciousness within. Tucked away from the bustling city centre, Billy Oak Acre’s is a popular place for locals to congregate, which is always a good sign. Choose from a selection of meat by the pound or a full slab of ribs; we’d recommend washing it all down with a Craft beer and finishing off with a slice of Texas Pecan Pie. You’ll be suffering from a food coma when you’re done, but trust us when we say it’s oh so worth it.
