Vernon Stevens, also known as Ninja, is another lucky fellow who was born and raised in the British Virgin Islands . In his case, Ninja calls the beautiful Virgin Gorda, the third largest of the BVI islands, home. Ninja is a firefighter on the island and credits his noble choice of profession to the lasting friendships made at the local school he attended, which encouraged a desire to contribute to the well-being of the BVI community.
Whilst busy being a local hero, Ninja stumbled upon a new hobby as a bartender and before long found himself working part-time at The Rock Café and Sam’s Piano Bar, nestled amongst the rocks between The Baths and Spanish Town on Virgin Gorda.
You may be asking yourselves, what possible connection is there between firefighting and bartending? Well, besides both being really quite cool, we don’t know either. What we will say is that it’s easy to see why Ninja wanted to work at The Rock and Sam’s Piano Bar… This beautiful restaurant and bar, built into the cliffs with an open air setting allows you to sit back and enjoy a meal or a cocktail with a view of waterfalls cascading down the rocks of Virgin Gorda (sounds like perfection to us). The bar is also host to nightly live music and is where Ninja has spent the last 13 years perfecting his cocktails.
Ninja has worked as a firefighter and barman for over a decade, and we can’t speak for the firefighting, but Ninja was flown over especially to London for our Be the VI Pop up Bar Event, so trust us when we say, his Painkiller cocktails are time-perfected glasses of rummy, pain-killing, chest warming, liquid goodness.
