A short hop, skip and a jump out of Melbourne and you’ll arrive at the secluded Big Blue Backyard. Hosting three styles of room (African, beach or bush) it’s an intimate place to rest your head. Located in Mornington Peninsula it’s only a brisk two minute stroll to usually deserted beach. On the door step are renowned vineyards, the relaxing Peninsula Hot Springs and Port Phillip Bay where you can dabble in the waters and swim with dolphins.
An hour and half outside the buzz of Melbourne and you’ll be basking in the tranquil surrounds of Mornington Peninsula. Minutes from the swell of oceans waves and 15 minutes from Port Phillip Bay, well its address is 56 Paradise Drive – and it certainly is.
With only accommodating three rooms, a serious amount of attention to detail has been paid. Each room has their own theme, which exudes plenty of character. The African room is distinguished by vibrant colors and traditional masks, whereas the Beach hideaway is influenced by a muted pastel palette and driftwood is incorporated into the interior. While the Bush retreat showcases all that is great about the Australian landscape. They all include a private deck too, which gives you the chance to get even closer to nature.
WHY WE LIKE IT
We love this bolthole for the simple fact of your personal deck outside your room. Not only does each deck have a shower for when you return from the beach, but it also sports a sunken double spa bath. Once dusk settles over Big Blue Backyard, light a few candles and infuse the water with oils and bubbles. So as you sink into the bubbles, you can listen to the tree top wildlife while sipping champagne – perfection.
