Spicers Tamarind Retreat

Spicers Tamarind is a retreat in its truest form, one of those rare places where you forget about the rest of the world and can actually switch off completely. As the name would suggest, there is an Asian influence here, but the hotel prides itself on providing an artful blend of western luxury with eastern calm, so you can sit back, relax and rebalance (with the help of an amazing spa, if needed).

You’ll find this little gem tucked away in the lush surrounds of Sunshine Coast Hinterland; the soundtrack is made up of the gentle sounds of nature in the rainforest, a lullaby that eases you into the calmness here very quickly. You will probably find yourself captivated by the tranquillity, but if you want to venture out then a short drive will get you to quaint villages, such as Maleny and Montville, the beautiful Glasshouse Mountains, local wineries and huge stretches of coastline.

Your Room

There is a focus on getting back in tune with nature at Spicers Tamarind, but that’s not to say they relinquish any of the indulgent touches, far from it. Your villa is a wooden building that blends into the landscape and looks wonderfully unassuming, but step inside and you’ll discover a luxurious bolt hole. Think large glass panels that bring the outside in, a chic, natural color palette, sumptuous bedding and a big bath tub. This is our way of going ‘being at one with nature’ in hinterland.

Why we Like it

If there weren’t already enough selling points, the food here is incredible. They specialize in modern Asian cuisine at The Tamarind Restaurant and, much like the décor, manage to seamlessly fuse the old with the new. But the best bit for us is the cooking classes you can take during your stay, learning how to create some delicious, original Thai dishes, which you can then enjoy at the end with a refreshing glass of local wine.
