Insolito Boutique hotel

Blending seamlessly with the hills and the beachfront thanks to the designs of the architect Otavio Raja Gabaglia, the Insolito is a great place to unwind by the sea and dabble in watersports. Taking Portuguese influences, the 20 rooms of the hotel are all uniquely decorated with arts and crafts from famous local artisans to completely immerse you in Brazilian culture.

Location

Situated in a horseshoe bay in the south of Brazil near Buzios, the town was a pirate hideout during the 17th century, but it was really put on the map during the 1960s when Brigitte Bardot fell in love with the area. It’s a two and a half hour drive from Rio de Janeiro airport or a 25-minute helicopter transfer, so use this time to gaze out the window and enjoy the tropical landscapes from the ground or the air.

Your room

Each of the 20 rooms at the Insolito is individually themed to showcase the best bits of Brazil. Using energising accent colors, the rooms feel light and tranquil. Most rooms have a veranda with a whirlpool and panoramic ocean views thanks to the floor to ceiling windows. If you want a bit of extra space, opt for a suite and you’ll get a lounge with a bar where you can mix your own cachaca drinks.

Why we like it

Right on the beach, the Insolito is well situated for watersports. Take out one of two of the hotel’s boats for a day packed with water-skiing and wakeboarding, or if you prefer, use the boat to hop between the beaches in the area for a spot of fishing or a secluded picnic.
