Explora Patagonia National Park

Settling in at Explora Patagonia National Park, you’ll find yourself right in the heart of the Chilean wilderness – where snowy mountain peaks give way to deep valleys and turquoise-tinted lakes. If you ask us, it’s one of the most uniquely beautiful locations in the world. This secluded stone lodge boasts a design inspired by Yosemite’s Ahwahnee Lodge and old Patagonian Estancias. Beautiful on the outside, and on the inside. It’s always a very good sign when your accommodation is as incredible as your Patagonian surroundings.

LOCATION

Explora Patagonia National Park sits nestled in the Chacabuco Valley, right on the doorstep of the Southern Andes. Owing to this incredibly remote position, it’s either a 6-hour drive or just a short 45-minute charter flight from Balmaceda Airport. But once you’ve arrived, it’ll be more than worth the journey. You need only look outside to understand why there’s such a strong focus on preserving and rewilding this area. The lodge itself is luxurious. But it’s what lies beyond the walls, out in these 600,000 acres of protected landscapes, that make this place all the more special. Home to boundless hiking and biking trails brimming with indigenous wildlife like Andean deer and pumas, the location of this eco-lodge is simply second to none.

YOUR ROOM

With just 8 rooms and 2 suites, the atmosphere here is both intimate and welcoming – and its beauty lies in tasteful simplicity. The profusion of dark woods and large stone fireplaces ensure you’ll feel warm and cozy (the comfy king size beds help, too), whilst your bedroom views out over the Tamanguito hills and the plains beyond are a welcome reminder of just how one-of-a-kind this property is.

WHY WE LIKE IT

A little slice of luxury in such a remote corner of the world will always go down well at Black Tomato – especially when the legacy of conservation and sustainability is front and center. We also love the endless opportunities to make your expedition unforgettable. Your journey is entirely in your hands here, where you’re free to choose from the lodge’s extensive program of outdoor experiences. With your own expert guide who you’ll get to know throughout your stay, sit by the fire each evening and plan out the next day’s adventures – whether that’s a full day hike through the southern slopes of the park or a sunrise bike ride along the Cochrane River. Or both.
