How long

9 nights ideal length

Shrugging off its stereotypes of the past, Colombia is a jewel in South America’s crown. This vibrant, passionate country really does tick all our boxes. Lush and dramatic landscapes, incredible wildlife, miles upon miles of deserted coastline, hip colonial cities, you’ll see it has something for everyone. Our all-encompassing nine night luxury vacation to Colombia takes in all the best bits, mixing a touch of culture in Bogota and Cartagena with hiking trails and horse rides in the coffee triangle, and of course some serious beach time in the Parque Nacional Tayrona.

Bogota from day to night

Start your Colombian adventure in Bogota, a lively South American capital that’s not to be underestimated. We’ll whisk you off on a private tour with a knowledgeable guide in tow around the La Candalaria district, where you can find interesting museums and prominent landmarks such as Plaza Bolivar, which captures much of the city’s history. Make sure to pay a visit to Villa de Leyva, a picturesque colonial town whose white-washed buildings, cobbled streets and characteristic dark green balconies will give you a sense of the beautiful architecture on offer in this country. As day turns to night, head to Parque 93, where the locals hangout in vibrant bars and clubs. Or for a taste of Colombian street food pay a visit to Usaquen, a more laid-back residential area where you can relax in the charming square, home to one of the best flea-markets in town. Your guide will take you round the stalls where you can try fresh ceviche, Colombian corn on the cob, and empanadas. For those with a sweet tooth make sure you try obleas, a Colombian favorite that consists of a flattened waffle cone smothered in sweet Colombian caramel.

Each and every Black Tomato trip is tailored exactly to who you are and what you want to do So tell us about yourself and we’ll create something that’s entirely you.

Start Planning

Colombia’s coffee region

For a break from the city we’ll take you up into the hills for a hit of pure Colombian caffeine. Staying at the boutique hideaway, Sazagua, you’ll spend a few days exploring this beautiful region on horseback.  You will find yourself surrounded by hills and coffee plantations with the majestic Andes Mountains as your backdrop and take a dip in the hot springs. For some behind the scenes action we’ll send you on a tour around a working coffee plantation and the haciendas, where you can meet the roasters and coffee pickers and discover what makes the ultimate cup of coffee.

From inland mountains to coastal beaches

From the mountains you’ll move on to the Caribbean coast to the captivating Tayrona National Park. A wonderfully diverse area containing everything from rainforests hundreds of meters above ground to sandy beaches, Tayrona is the reason why Colombia should be on all your bucketlists. While here, explore the unique scenery with a fascinating eco-trek through the park. Then come face to face with the fish of the coral reef as you do a snorkelling expedition in the dazzling Caribbean Sea (or just dip your toes in the crystal clear water – we don’t mind).

Cartagena cityscape

Leaving the best till last, finish off your adventure with a stay in the wonderful city of Cartagena- a real Colombian highlight. Rest your head at the Silvio Tcherassi Hotel and Spa situated in Cartagena’s beautiful old town. Choose a superior room featuring restored original stone walls and private walk-out balconies offering beautiful views of the city and beyond. Ideal. Spend your day getting settled before using the evening to get properly acquainted with the city with a horse-drawn carriage tour through the bustling squares and charming narrow streets. After your city tour feel free to explore the old town at your leisure – with the city drenched in history, culture and romance, we suspect it will prove impossible not to fall in love with the cobbled paths and quaint cafes.

For all you movie moguls out there it’s time to see the city the way a film maker does. You’ll be guided around town by Gerardo Nieto, a film director and the director of Cartagena’s world-renowned annual film festival. He will take you on a half-day escorted bike ride around some of Cartagena’s most fascinating film-related sites. Cartagena has been used as the backdrop for many feature films, which is understandable considering its beauty and there is no better person to explain the cinematic allure of it than Gerado. After the fascinating tour, you’ll no doubt be a bit peckish and will want to sample some of Cartagena’s finest Caribbean inspired food. We’ll take you to our favorite restaurant in the city,  followed by a visit to Café del Mar bar where you can toast the end of an incredible vacation.
