Pairing rustic mainland Sicily with the chic charm of the Aeolian Islands, this five night itinerary transports you to Italy’s lesser-traveled gems. Bask in baroque on the streets of Taormina and visit Greek architectural gems in the heartlands of Sicily, before cruising across to the dreamy islands that lay just off the north coast, where restless volcanic eruptions meet Slow Food philosophy and the rugged island scenery is all encompassing.
Flying into Catania, your journey starts with a private pickup and transfer to Taormina, Sicily’s chicest city where well-heeled revellers brush shoulders in the midst of medieval churches, ancient Greek sites and the shadow of the imposing Mount Etna. Nestled on the soft-pebble coastline, we’ll set you up for two nights at La Plage Hotel, a unique beachside retreat that keeps itself a secret from mass tourism. While away your days here in the embrace of the pristine Mediterranean ocean, or get cultural at the hillside town’s ancient Greek Theatre, where you can catch an evening performance of La Bohème before returning to the jacuzzi of your private ocean-view bungalow. If you’re looking to delve a little deeper into the cultural fabric of Sicily, we can organize a bevy of excursions that help you get under the skin of the island, whether you’re looking to gaze in awe at the Greek architecture of Agrigento’s Valley of the Temples or discover the mafia heritage of Palermo.Read more
AN AEOLIAN ADVENTURE
With mainland Sicily explored, it’s time to get a taste of the island lifestyle. A 45 minute hydrofoil ferry journey eases you into the Aeolians, where pumice stone beaches frame verdant inlands that are freckled with fertile vineyards and restaurants that adopt the emerging Slow Food movement. Your first point of call is the island of Vulcano and the Therasia Hotel, a whitewashed charmer that clings low to a jagged headland and boasts one of our favorite infinity pools of all time. After a hearty Italian lunch and a few glasses of local Malvasia, it’s time to settle into your new home-from-home. Start with an outdoor massage whilst enjoying views that encompass the entire Aeolian archipelago, and end with a Michelin Star dinner at the hotel’s Il Cappero restaurant, where a semi-exposed dining room flickers to the light of dancing candles. The rest of your time amongst the islands follows no routine; take a private speedboat tour of the Aeolians and visit the enigmatic, eclectic characters of each, or adopt a more static lifestyle and devote your time to sun worshipping bliss, reclining by balmy waters and sampling the culinary class that’s ever-present with a trip to one of our favorite European archipelagos.
