Rosa Alpina, The Dolomites

Sat snug within a picture-book village in the heart of the Italian Dolomites, this sophisticated family-run hotel mixes traditional alpine charm with contemporary luxury and some of the best Michelin-starred cuisine in South Tyrol’s gastro wonderland. Expect impeccable service and an air of timeless elegance that comes with years of hosting A-list clientele. Say hello to refined mountain comfort.

LOCATION

As well as being picturesque (think charming chalets with wooden balconies and castle-like turrets) the peaceful village of San Cassiano is also one of South Tyrol’s Ladin communities so you’ll get a truly authentic experience of South Tyrolean life. Surrounded by the rugged majesty of the Dolomites, here you’re perfectly positioned to take full advantage of the incredible scenery. Hike the alpine meadows in summer or ski the UNESCO mountain ranges in winter. The wineries of Bolzano to the west make an idyllic day trip or, should you wish to explore even further, Venice is just two and a half hours away – the Rosa Alpina has its own helipad should you wish to skip the scenic drive.

YOUR ROOM

Traditional decor reigns throughout most of the 51 individually designed rooms and suites with pine-clad walls, wooden balconies and local antiques however our favorite is the modern Chalet Zeno apartment attached to the hotel. Sleekly designed in blond wood and with floor-to-ceiling windows boasting beautiful valley vistas, you get all of the benefits of the hotel and its award-winning spa within your own spacious mountain hideaway complete with a Champagne welcome and private Finnish sauna and hot tub.

WHY WE LIKE IT

If you’re a food lover, this ticks all the boxes. Out of all the Michelin-starred restaurants in South Tyrol’s gourmet mecca, the hotel’s Restaurant St. Hubertus, headed up by Norbert Niederkofler, is one of the best and dinner at the Chef’s Table is a must. Or, for something a little more ‘off-piste’, the hotel can whisk you away to one of their private mountain huts for an alpine banquet against a backdrop of mountainous majesty. Enough said.
